ASTM A335 P22 is a 2.25Cr-1Mo chrome-moly low-alloy steel seamless pipe for high-temperature, high-pressure service. ASTM A335/A335M (active edition A335/A335M-26) covers nominal wall and minimum wall seamless ferritic alloy-steel pipe for high-temperature service, suitable for bending, flanging and fusion welding. ASME SA-335 Grade P22 is the ASME Boiler and Pressure Vessel Code Section II-A counterpart and is the designation referenced in ASME pressure codes.
Grade P22, UNS K21590. Chemical composition (%), ASTM A335 Table 1:
| C | Mn | P max | S max | Si max | Cr | Mo |
|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|

Mechanical properties: tensile strength 415 MPa (60 ksi) min, yield strength 205 MPa (30 ksi) min, elongation 30% longitudinal / 20% transverse min (50 mm gauge, wall 8 mm and over).
Nearest equivalents (comparable, not identical):
ASTM A335 sets no NPS limit. Wall thicknesses normally follow ASME B36.10M, which lists sizes from NPS 1/8 (10.3 mm OD) upward. Schedules: Sch 10, 20, 30, 40, STD, 60, 80, XS, 100, 120, 140, 160 and XXS.
The size table in the listing images covers NPS 1/2 to 24 (21.3 mm to 610 mm OD) in Sch 40, Sch 80, Sch 160 and XXS (XXS up to NPS 12), with wall thickness and kg/m per ASME B36.10M. Example: NPS 6 Sch 80 is 168.3 mm OD, 10.97 mm wall, 42.56 kg/m.
Hot finished or cold drawn. Plain ends or bevelled ends (37.5 degrees, for butt welding). Mill finish with dark blue-grey oxide scale, uncoated. Send your NPS, schedule and quantity and we will confirm availability.
Full or isothermal annealed, or normalized and tempered, with tempering at 675 C (1250 F) minimum. A335 recommends tempering at least 50 C above the service temperature, so state it in your enquiry if service will exceed 600 C (1100 F).
Tests required by ASTM A335:
Supplementary requirements S1-S9, PMI, UT and third-party inspection are carried out only when ordered. EN 10204 type 3.1 mill test certificates are the usual supply basis.
Used by thermal and captive power plants, boiler manufacturers, oil refineries, petrochemical plants and EPC and piping contractors.
Is A335 P22 the same as SA335 P22?
SA-335 is the ASME Section II-A counterpart of A335. Mills certify the pipe to A335/SA-335, and ASME pressure codes reference the SA designation.
What is the European equivalent of P22?
The nearest grade is EN 10216-2 10CrMo9-10 (1.7380). It is comparable, not identical.
Can you supply P22 pipe with IBR Form III-A?
Yes, on request for this range. Mention it in your enquiry.
Which test certificate comes with the pipe?
EN 10204 3.1 is the usual basis. PMI, UT and third-party inspection must be ordered separately.
